JHU SLAMS
PRESIDENT OVER CWC, UPF JOINING WITH GOVT. |
LTTE Kattaparichchan camp destroyed |
|
By Dasun
Edirisinghe
The Jathika
Hela Urumaya (JHU) on Tuesday severely criticised President
Mahind Rajapakse for welcoming the Ceylon Workers’ Congress and
Upcountry People’s Front members into the government’s fold and
giving them ministerial portfolios. They claimed that both
parties were pro – LTTE.
The JHU
demanded of the President to immediately tell the country
whether these two parties accepted the ‘Mahinda Chintana’
policies.
"The JHU
strongly condemns the CWC and UCPF joining the government. The
mandate received by Rajapakse was undoubtedly from the Sinhala
people and these two parties are pro-LTTE and they clearly
maintain links with the LTTE," spokesman of the JHU Nishantha
Sri Warnasinghe told The Island.
"We also
object to the offering of ministerial and deputy ministerial
posts to everyone crossing over to the government from other
parties. People are reeling under the escalating cost of living
and have to bear the burden of the extra expenditure to maintain
all these ministers. Expanding the Cabinet in this way is also a
breach of the ‘Mahinda Chintanaya’. This act of the President
will lead to people losing faith in him", he said.
Warnasinghe
said that the CWC and UCPF sided with the United National Party
against Rajapakse at the last presidential election and were
highly critical of the Mahinda Chintanaya, JHU and the JVP. By
taking such parties into the government, Rajapakse has defiled
his mandate, he said.
He alleged
that the President has committed a grave mistake by prostituting
his mandate in this manner.
"These parties
joined the government, after losing their power base, with the
aim of gaining privileges and benefits. They clearly are
anti-Sinhala communalist parties. They are also two terrorist
parties that suppressed the rights of the Sinhala community in
the central hills and want to drive them away from these areas.
The President has kicked his mandate by winning over the support
of these two pro-LTE parties", Warnasinghe said.

BATTLE CONTINUES, OVER 90 LTTE TERRORISTS KILLED IN SAMPOOR |
|
|
31 Aug.2006
(Update-09.10)
The
Security Forces continuing the clearing operation in South of
Trincomalee have achieved a
tremendous success over the terrorist offensive so far. The
radio transmission among the terrorists confirmed the 91
terrorists had been killed and over 100 others injured during
the confrontation. Further it has been reported from the
civilian sources that the LTTE had forcibly usurp a government
hospital in Kadiraveli -in LTTE
dominated area for the treatment of their cadres since yesterday
(Tuesday the 29th of August). Many civilian patients have
reportedly been chased away by the terrorists and the hospital
staff compelled to work under terrorists' intimidation.
According to
the same sources the LTTE has put up a large tent with the logo
of the International Red Cross on the beach close to the
Government Hospital at Kadiraveli to
treat a large number of their wounded cadres. Meanwhile,
civilian sources from LTTE dominated Vakari
revealed that LTTE had a mass burial of over 70 slain cadres
yesterday at Kandaladi in
Vakarai. The civilians were forcibly
taken at gun point to provide labour
for the LTTE camps in the area. The radio monitoring overheard
by the Military revealed the cohesiveness of the terrorists
group had largely deteriorated due to many internal disputes.
The lack of interest of the terrorist leadership in grass root
level cadre and the reluctance of the senior and middle level
leaders to face the battle seemed to have frustrated the
operational level cadre.
Military
Spokesman Brigadier Prasad Samarasinghe,
said "The Security Forces are engaged in an operation to
neutralise the LTTE positions in
Sampur,
Echchalampattu that pose a direct threat to the
Trincomalee
harbour Eastern Naval base and civilians who are were
returning to Muttur," He said Air
Force fighter jets yesterday too took identified LTTE targets in
Chalai,
Mullaitivu. "Heavy damage was reported due to aerial
bombing of LTTE targets in Echchalampattu
and Sampur on Monday," he added.
Meanwhile troops manning FDLs in
Poovarasankulam in
Vavuniya yesterday confronted more
than 20 LTTE cadres who tried to infiltrate the FDL yesterday
around 6.15 am.

SL
Army launched an attack on previously identified terrorist’s
targets in Sampoor area on Monday and Tuesday as LTTE terrorists
continuously resist the SL security forces attempt to re-settle
the displaced Muslim families in Thoppur and Selvanagar in
Muttur. Military sources said during the last two days LTTE
carried out several artillery and motars attacks on SL security
forces while they were on a special mission to assist displaced
Muslim families to re-settle in that area and it clearly shows
that LTTE terrorists didn’t want displaced Muslims to be
re-settled in their own soil.
Military
spokesman Brigadier Prasaad Samarasinghe said due to LTTE
artillery and motar attack that carried on SL security forces
from Sampoor area, SL security forces were forced to launch a
fresh attack on LTTE terrorists located in Sampoor. Further
Brigadier Samarasinghe confirmed that the main LTTE camp in
Sampoor where artillery guns were mounted was fully destroyed by
the air raids launched by SL Air Force. However, Brigadier
Samarasinghe said that 13 SL security personnel sacrificed their
lives in this operation and nearly 80 security personnel were
injured. Apart from that Brigadier confirmed according to the
available reports nearly 65 LTTE cadres were killed in this
operation and more than 100 cadres were seriously injured.
Furthermore he said that due to heavy and unexpected losses to
LTTE in the battle field during the last two days, LTTE had left
behind many dead bodies of their own cadres in the hands of SL
security forces. “Finally, we had to burry their dead bodies”
Brigadier added.
