Are Tamil Leaders doing the same mistake that Pakistan is doing to India?

Mr Murugan said that then PM of India, Indira Gandhi " then CM of Tamil Nadu, MGR were responsible for training " developing LTTE militarily in Sri Lanka. Due to of some difference of opinion between Indira Gandhi and then Govt of Sri Lanka, she wanted to “teach a lesson” to Sri Lanka. So she used Tamil Elam problem prevailing in Sri Lanka to her advantage. With the support of MGR, Elam Tamils were given military training by India and ultimately emerged a strong military organization in the name of LTTE.

I feel that this is a great mistake from a country like India. If India has some difference of opinion with Sri Lanka, India has to solve it diplomatically in UN forum or some other forum. It is not fair to sponsor terrorism to other country. In fact, India has problems with Pakistan, China, Bangladesh. Is sponsoring terrorism to all the countries with which we have problem is an answer?  [In all the above statements when I said India I meant only the former PM, Indira Gandhi.]

This situation is similar to what Pakistan is doing with Kashmir. It is a open secret that the Pakistan is behind terrorism in Kashmir. We have been urging to whole world that Pakistan should stop sponsoring the cross border terrorism. We also say that the problem in Kashmir is internal problem of India and we can solve it on our own. But, on the other hand, if India helps LTTE then we cannot talk/complaint to the world about Pakistan, as we are committing the same mistake to Sri Lanka. The current Central Govt should be appreciated for not yielding to request of some Tamil Leaders who are urging the Central Govt. to support and supply aid to Tamil Elam. Ultimately, it will go only to LTTE.

As for as Tamil Elam problem is concerned, it is no way related to India. As a democratic country, India should not interfere in the internal problem of another country. India should neither support nor oppose Tamil Elam or Sri Lankan Govt. LTTE Chief, Prabhakaran also aired the same view that Lankan Tamils and Sinhalese are brothers. It is up to them to resolve their problem. Outsider (
India) should not interfere with them. Still, I fail to understand why leaders in Tamil Nadu are hell bent in supporting LTTE. All that we carry in common is that LTTE and a state in India i.e. Tamil Nadu, speak the same language i.e. Tamil.

ADMK and Congress learnt a lesson on how dangerous outfit the LTTE is, after paying a heavy price of the life of former PM of India, Rajiv Gandhi. On a side note I would like to say that it was also a mistake of Rajiv Gandhi also for supporting Sri Lankan Govt. He should not have sent IPKF, but should have remained neutral to the internal problems of Sri Lanka.

Apart from ADMK and Congress, people of Tamil Nadu also stopped supporting LTTE after Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination. Things were fine in last decade i.e. 1990’s, but currently many Tamil people including Tamil leaders forget that LTTE is a banned organization. It has killed our former Prime Minister and many Tamil leaders. It is behind killing of people in Sri Lanka (which includes Tamil people).

Root cause for all that is happening today is the blunder committed by Indira Gandhi and MGR i.e. Nurturing LTTE. It is a black mark to our country. Its good that the future Govt. didn’t commit the same mistake. But, from many blogs and websites, I feel that Tamil people have again started supporting the banned Terrorist Organization. I request the people of Tamil and their leaders also not to continue the blunder committed by Indira Gandhi and MGR. Let us keep away from internal problems of Sri Lanka.

Anand VG
