                                                                                        The cremation of Lt.Gen. Parami Kulathunghe took place at Borella General Cemetery on Wednesday evening with full military honours with the participation of large distinguished crowd including of Maha Sanga representing all three Nikayas, Security service personnel, Ministers and MPs of Parliament, VIP personnel, relations, OBA members, Staff and Students of Trinity College Kandy and members of Public.

Funeral procession was commenced from Kelaniya - Waragoda from where the casket bearing the remains of late General was kept for the last two days around 3.00pm on Wednesday and thousands of mourners gathered by the side of the main road from Kelaniya to Borella to pay their last respect to another brave son of mother Lanka who sacrificed his life for the country and its people.

UPFA Government was represented by Minster of Education Mr.Susil Premajayantha at the funeral and the condolence message sent by the President was read out by him.

                                         SL Navy spokesman Commander D.K.P.Dassanayake said that LTTE sea tigers carried out an attack on SL Navy Base in Kalpitiya on Wednesday. Further he said that nearly 20 dingy boats including of several suicide boats engaged in this attack on SL Navy base around 11.15 am today.

During the attack two dingy boats at least six terrorists each on board were completely destroyed by SL Navy with the assistant of SL Air force. Three sailors who were injured in this attack were air lifted to Colombo General Hospital. One Water jet vessel belongs to SL Navy was damaged, military sources revealed.

MAJOR GENERAL SHYMAN KULATHUBGHE IS THE NEW DEPUTY CHIEF OF STAFF

                             President Mahinda Rajapaksha has appointed Maj.Gen. Shyman Kulathunghe RSC USP ndc psc as the new Deputy Chief of Staff of Sri Lanka Army with effect from 27^th June 2006. This position was previously held by Maj.Gen. Paarami Kulathunghe RSP USP USAWC who was brutally assassinated by a LTTE suicide bomber in Pannipitiya on Last Monday.

Maj.Gen. Shyman Kulathunghe joined SL Army as a Cadet Officer in 1973 and commissioned as a second lieutenant in 1974 after completing his training course. He was promoted to the rank of Captain in 1979 and subsequently to the rank of Major 1983. Thereafter, he was appointed as a Colonel in 1994 and as a Brigadier in 1995. In 2001 he was promoted to the rank of Maj.General and took up duties as the General Officer Commanding for 52 division in Varani. Thereafter, he has been appointed as the General Officer Commanding for 22 division in Trincomalee and in 2006 he has been appointed as the Commandant of Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force.

    Sri Lanka's Tamil Tiger Terrorists have unexpectedly apologised for the assassination of the former Indian prime minister Rajiv Gandhi in 1991. It was the first time the Tigers have directly admitted responsibility for the death of Gandhi, who was killed by a suicide bomber.

"I would say it is a great tragedy, a monumental historical tragedy which we deeply regret," the Tigers' chief negotiator, Anton Balasingham, said in an interview with India's NDTV. "We call upon the government of India and people of India to be magnanimous, to put the past behind them."
