Hi, have you heard about the crisis in Burma? (05-10-2007)

Burma is ruled by one of the worst military dictatorships in the world. This week Buddhist monks and nuns began marching and chanting prayers to call for democracy. The protests spread and hundreds of thousands of Burmese people joined in -- they've been brutally attacked by the military regime, but still the protests are spreading.

I just signed a petition calling on Burma's powerful ally China and the UN security council to step in and pressure Burma's rulers to stop the killing. The petition has exploded to over 200,000 signatures in a few days and is being advertised in newspapers around the world, delivered to the UN secretary general, and broadcast to the Burmese people by radio. We're trying to get to 1 million signatures this week, please sign below and tell everyone!

Thank you for your help!

Next time the violent minister will enter the president's Residence and demand for something else. Do not give in or be lenient with

rowdy's like Mevyn. How can he be called a minister.Using Criminal force and ministerial powers must be prevented. Stern action must be taken and be stripped from his position. He canno't be a Labour minister, He is not suitable even to be a LABOURER.

Govt. will deal with Mervyn: Jeyaraj

The government is to take 'appropriate' action against Labour Minister Mervin Silva, who had allegedly entered the Canadian High Commission office in Colombo and demanded a visa for his son, the Chief Government Whip said yesterday.

Senior Minister and Chief Government Whip Jeyaraj Fernadopulle said he would discuss the alleged unbecoming behaviour of Minister Mervin Silva with President Mahinda Rajapaksa and take appropriate action to discipline him.

"I will definitely bring this to the attention of the President and try to do something as it is not only him but the entire government that is being blamed by the people for this kind of behaviour by a minister," Mr. Fernandopulle said.

Asked by the Daily Mirror to comment on the government's position on Minister Silva's alleged forced entry to the Canadian High Commission last week and the commotion he reportedly created, Minister Fernandopulle said

it was time to do something on the despicable behaviour of Minister Silva.

Agreeing to the views expressed by Minister Fernandopulle, Sports and Public Entertainment Minister from the UNP Democratic Group, Gamini Lokuge said the behaviour was an insult to the government at large and to the ministers and politicians in particular.

"He must be stopped. We are going to discuss Mervin Silva at our next Group Meeting and decide what should be done as he is increasingly becoming an embarrassment to the government," Minister Lokuge told the Daily Mirror.

Last week, Minister Silva allegedly entered the premises of the Canadian High Commission with a pistol in hand despite the security guard's protests. Later, he reportedly met a Mission official and had urged him to issue a visa to his son.

Canadian High Commission officials were not available for comment. A senior official of the Cinnamon Gardens Police claimed there was no official complaint about such an incident. – S.A.J

To *All SRILANKA GOVERNMENT* conerned officials 17-07-2007

" Precaution is better than cure "

" *Hope Mr.Bhaila pulls his socks up and tie the laces tight*
*Without "  BAILA"*

It is said that Minister Bhaila, is leaving Sri Lanka on Friday 13th,there
is nothing he can do on* FRIDAY* as it is the weekend holiday and what
assurance he has that he can finish  the matter in three days before the
execution.

It is a disturbing situation to note that the Government woke up late in
Rizan's case.

I regret to note that the Bureau and the Srilankan governement was silent
for two years and trying to save her now.  One should have common sense to
note taht sending a team three days prior to execution, what can they do?
Sat Sun and Mon is left to do anything and normally the Embassy also knows
taht things are very slow here in the Kingdom.

This initiative should have been taken at the early stages of her case
before it culminated to the death sentence. Anyway hope for the
best.Thebureau is clever in stopping migrant workers at the Airport to
check the
BUREAU CHOP in the passport and sometimes prevent travelling if the
insurence is not valid.Likewise, the bureau must protect the workers after
they leave the country instead of waiting till the* PERAHERA* *GOES,* in
Rizan's case.

Those enjoying the good appels, please do enjoy it but think of the poor
migrant workers and give us at least the stem.

Hope for the best in the future.

Sincerely

SAM FERNANDO

Fiasco in Vaharai- 02-07-2007 MANOJ ABYEDEERA

President Mahinda Rajapakse chased away the menacing LTTE gang that resided in
Sampoor, near the major civilian harbor in the eastern Sri Lanka last August. Battered and unable
even to flee to their strong hold in Killinochchi, this group went into hiding in the jungles of
Vaharai, just south of Sampoor. From here they started robbing and terrorizing the neighboring
villages, they even fired long distant artillery at civilian villages killing school children and
teachers. (http://www.spur.asn.au/LTTE_Atrocities_20061207_Somadevi_School_Massacre.htm)

Seeing enough of this torment president Rajapakse ordered the armed forces to liberate
the suffering civilians from this menacing mob. When the Sri Lankan military started this
humanitarian operation most of the media outlets in Sri Lanka and the non governmental
organizations bellowed that the armed forces are strangling the civilian life in the area by
depriving the free flow of food and medicines, and they demanded an immediate halt to this
operation. Last week Sri Lankan armed forces entered Vaharai , and the defense secretary
visited the area. Contrary to what the NGO and cooperate media reported they found no evidence
of food or medicinal shortages, but they found ample evidence of appalling abuse of food and
medicine by the LTTE mob. As reported by many independent media, the armed forces found
stockpiles of medicines hidden in LTTE bunkers (http://www.dailynews.lk/2007/01/25/main_News.asp#).
Most repugnantly they found the LTTE mob leader Swarnam has used bags of rice to cover his
bunker (http://www.divaina.com/2007/01/26/news11.html). Army also discovered that the LTTE had setup
an artillery gun position at the civilian hospital jeopardizing functioning of the hospital.(
http://www.island.lk/2007/01/25/news1.html) (http://www.defence.lk/new.asp?fname=20070125_02 ). The Norwegian
led monitoring mission deliberately shrouded these atrocities, and didn’t even condemn them
after they were revealed.

These revealings once again show the disingenuous nature of the NGO based and
cooperate media in Sri Lanka, not only have they falsely blamed the armed forces for
destabilizing civilian life in the region, they failed to report the appalling atrocities of the LTTE
mob in the region. A vast majority of the Sri Lankan people believe that forceful means should be
used to curb the unyielding vicious LTTE terrorism. These media institutes and NGOs act to
prevent the LTTE from loosing all because of their vested interests. The media fiasco in Vaharai
shows this to us once again

ILLICIT ACTIVTIES NEAR SINHARAJA RESERVE FOREST -02-25-2007-sydney karunawardhana

I am a citizen of the Deniyaya village in Sri Lanka on the periphery of the Sinharaja Reserve Forest , which is declared as UNESCO World Heritage Site. As per the Advisory body evaluation report in the UNESCO website (http://whc.unesco.org/archive/advisory_body_evaluation/405.pdf), the forest felling or any other activities are banned within 1.6km range from the periphery of the reserve boundary. But I have heard that construction of hotel is going on in the Ensalwatte Tea Estate, Viharahena, (near Rupavahini TV Transmission Tower, Deniyaya). As part of the construction, illegal forest felling is also going on. I have heard that one elephant was killed in that area. As I do not know exactly the boundary location, I would like you to investigate the field situation in order to protect this unique and only forest reserve left in Sri Lanka . It is housing nearly 140 endangered species of flora and fauna.

ZOA - a Dutch Protestant Agency is suspected of running hospital inside LTTE camp in
Amparai in East Sri Lanka

Fri, 2007-01-12 16:23 By Walter Jayawardhana

Colombo, 12 January, (Asiantribune.com): Sri Lanka Defense spokesman Minister Keheliya
Rambukwella said that the Netherlands based ZOA; a non-governmental organization registered
for refugee care was suspected of running a hospital at a Tamil Tiger insurgent garrison overrun
by the country’s elite police commandos, the Special Task Force (STF) recently.
ZOA Refugee Care is an international and Protestant agency, based in the Netherlands, and
focuses on relief and rehabilitation among refugees and IDPs. In the beginning ZOA worked in
countries in South East Asia. ZOA is the abbreviation in Dutch for Zuid (South) Oost (East) Azie
(Asia), the part of the world where ZOA started her work in the seventies.
The Minister said, "We found an NGO fully and totally involved in running a hospital at Stanley
Base. It is ZOA."
Stanley Base, one of the largest Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) garrisons in the Eastern
Province jungles of Ampara, was overrun by the STF recently and the Defense sources revealed
that a NGO who are supposed to care for civilians were actually running a hospital for the
guerillas inside the garrison where no civilians were allowed to enter.
But ZOA has announced that the equipment found in the Tiger hospital might have been stolen
from their closed down office.
Immediately after the LTTE’s Stanley camp, named after its commander, was abandoned by the
Tamil Tigers, the STF said they were amazed to discover the hospital run by the Dutch NGO.
If the NGO is found guilty after a full investigation ZOA will be ordered to leave the country,
Rambukwella said.
Rambukwella said certain other groups are also under investigation for helping the LTTE
insurgency. But he did not name them.
"Certain NGOs are acting against the normal law of the land and have got involved with
subversives. Some have stooped down to assisting the terrorists.”
"Once investigations are over and we have 100 percent confirmation of what we suspect ... we
will have to take steps to have their visas revoked or order them to leave," Rambukwella further
said, referring to ZOA.
However, ZOA's general affairs manager, Anslem Mudiatta, has denied the charge He told a
news agency: "The allegation is of course groundless.”
"We ... closed our office because of fighting and had to leave so many things behind which we
couldn't carry with us," he added. "Certain things they say were found in that LTTE (Tiger)
hospital is things we presume were taken from our office."
In a second incident January 11, the STF commandos overran another Tiger camp at
Kanjikudichchi Aru named Janak in Ampara and found two boats donated by Save the Children
and two tents emblazoned with the UN refugee agency UNHCR's logo, officials said.
But defense officials were of the opinion that, in this case, the aid had been stolen from civilians it
was donated to by the LTTE.
